Behind every part of our refinery is a team whose skills, expertise and commitment keep Sun Metals operating safely and efficiently every day. Among them are many incredible women building rewarding careers and making a valuable contribution across our business.

This International Women's Day, we're proud to celebrate the women of Sun Metals and the important role they play in helping shape our success. While the mining and metals industry has traditionally been male-dominated, we're seeing more women build successful careers across operations, engineering, maintenance, laboratory services, safety and leadership.

As part of our Women of Sun Metals series, we've been sharing the stories of the talented women behind our operations. Through their experiences, we've celebrated the many pathways into our industry and the knowledge, passion and dedication that help drive our business forward every day.

"What might surprise others about women working in mining is that we aren't afraid to get our hands dirty. We're just as willing as anyone to get in and get the job done."

Having joined Sun Metals as a Training Administrator, Taylah-Ann Sweet has already taken an exciting step forward in her career, recently moving into the role of Training Advisor supporting the Leaching, Purification and Operation Services teams.

Representing the next generation of talent in the resources industry, Taylah plays an important role in helping operators build the skills and knowledge they need to work safely and confidently. From managing training systems and documentation to developing learning materials and assessments, her work helps ensure employees have access to quality training that supports safe, effective and consistent operations across the refinery.

One of Taylah's favourite parts of the role is combining creativity with continuous improvement. As training materials are reviewed and updated, she enjoys finding new ways to present information that is engaging, practical and aligned with current standards.

"There's a lot more that goes on behind the scenes than people realise," Taylah says. "Along with managing training systems and documentation, I'm also learning about the plant and how everything operates."

Throughout her time at Sun Metals, Taylah has been inspired by the many women who have supported her development, particularly Renee Gram, whose confidence and leadership have encouraged Taylah to continue building her own confidence and embrace new opportunities.

For Taylah, one of the biggest misconceptions about women working in mining is that they shy away from hands-on work. Her experience has shown the opposite.

"Women aren't afraid to get their hands dirty," she says. "We're just as willing to get in and get the job done."

We sat down with Taylah to learn more about her career journey so far, the lessons she's learned along the way, and why speaking up, backing yourself and supporting other women are so important.

As the final feature in our Women of Sun Metals series, Taylah's story is a reminder that there is no single pathway into mining. Whether in operations, engineering, finance, ICT, laboratory services or training, every woman featured has brought a unique perspective, valuable skills and an unwavering commitment to helping Sun Metals succeed.
