This International Women's Day, we're proud to celebrate the women of Sun Metals and the important role they play in helping shape our success. While the mining and metals industry has traditionally been male-dominated, we're seeing more women build successful careers across operations, engineering, maintenance, laboratory services, safety and leadership.

Meet Ravinder Kaur

"It feels rewarding to work in the mining industry as a woman, especially in a technical role. I enjoy being part of a team that keeps critical systems running smoothly, and it's encouraging to see more women contributing across technical and operational roles."

As an ICT Support Technician, Ravinder Kaur plays an important role in keeping the technology that supports our refinery operating reliably every day. From troubleshooting technical issues and setting up new systems to supporting employees across site, her work helps keep people connected and minimises downtime so our teams can continue working safely and efficiently.

For Ravinder, no two days are ever the same. She enjoys the challenge of solving technical problems and helping colleagues get back up and running as quickly as possible. While many people associate ICT with technical expertise alone, she says one of the most important parts of the role is understanding people.

"ICT support isn't just about technical skills," she explains. "It's also about patience, communication and understanding the user's problem."

Ravinder believes the mining and heavy industry sectors offer exciting opportunities for women interested in technical careers. Her advice is simple: don't be intimidated. The industry values capable people from all backgrounds, and there is plenty of opportunity to learn, grow and build a rewarding career.
