This International Women's Day, we're proud to celebrate the women of Sun Metals and the important role they play in helping shape our success. While the mining and metals industry has traditionally been male-dominated, we're seeing more women build successful careers across operations, engineering, maintenance, laboratory services, safety and leadership.

As part of our Women of Sun Metals series, we're sharing the stories of the talented women behind our operations. Through their experiences, you'll discover the many pathways into our industry, what inspires them in their careers, and the advice they'd give to other women considering a future in mining.

As Group SOX Accountant in our Financial Governance team, Jasmine Sebastian plays an important role in strengthening the systems and processes that support our business. From improving internal controls over financial reporting to working with teams across the organisation, her role helps ensure Sun Metals continues to operate with integrity, accountability and efficiency.

With a background in Internal Audit, Jasmine saw her move to Townsville and Sun Metals as an opportunity to build on her experience in a new way. She enjoys analysing systems, identifying opportunities for improvement and collaborating with colleagues to design workflows that are efficient, practical and resilient.

One of the achievements Jasmine is most proud of has been identifying cost-saving opportunities through detailed analysis and audit reviews. By challenging existing processes and looking for smarter ways of working, she's helped deliver measurable value while strengthening the business for the future.

Since joining Sun Metals more than two years ago, Jasmine says the support of her colleagues has played a significant role in helping her grow, both professionally and personally. Feeling respected, included and empowered has reinforced the importance of creating workplaces where everyone has the confidence to contribute their ideas.

For Jasmine, International Women's Day is about recognising the women who have paved the way while continuing to build workplaces where everyone has equal opportunities to succeed. She believes organisations can make a real difference by promoting safe, inclusive and flexible working environments that enable people to thrive.

She also encourages everyone to play an active role in advocating for others.

"Speak up for yourself and for those who are deliberately silenced," Jasmine says. "Staying quiet can be just as powerful a choice as speaking out—we're accountable either way."
